Unlike manual stretch film, machine stretch film is suitable for industries with high production capacities and automated or semi-automated packaging machines. Although the use of machine film requires an investment in packaging machinery, this investment is quickly recouped. This is because packaging with machine film is much more efficient than with hand film and because there is much less waste material in the packaging process.

Just like hand stretch film, machine stretch film is used in industries such as manufacturing, trading, logistics and more. It is most commonly used for packaging palletized goods to protect the goods while they are being transported or stored. In addition to protection, wrapped goods and pallets are extremely easy to move and stack in logistics centres.

Machine film is usually available in rolls from 15kg to 18kg. Here, in contrast to manual, a much greater variety of thicknesses and stretchabilities is found. The thickness of the machine film ranges from 5 microns to 23+ microns and its stretchability from 20% to 300+%. As with manual strech film , the thinner the machine film is, the more metres there are in a roll.

How to choose?

As with manual strech film, when selecting a machine strech film, the leading factor should also be its intended use. As a rule, the heavier the load to be packed is, the greater the holding power the film must have. However, the guiding factor that should determine the choice of film is the cost rate of packing per pallet. The easiest way to determine this cost rate is to test several types of film, calculate how much it costs to wrap a pallet with each type, and choose the most economical option.
